My time at One World Observatory
“The world saw it rise
The world saw it take shape
An invite to the world of Forever”
I arrive alone at the One World Trade Centre, a pale grey mirrored glass building, rising up, the tallest skyscraper in New York City.
It is a calm place. I step into the lift where the walls within move telling stories through captivating photographs.
The doors open and I along with others step into a cool long, narrow corridor. We the group walk in line one behind the other enveloped by an overhead lit painted starry night sky. We follow the line into the Observatory Theatre. Standing with anticipation surrounded by atmospheric music, a guide is about to enlighten us.
Entertained we become immersed in faster-moving pictures of New York City.
The swell of the music intensifies, the guide’s voice becomes more powerful. We feel the growing almost crescendo like – what I can only describe as pure high drama.
I am one hundred floors up, standing on top of the world surrounded by water on three sides.
The moving picture boards slowly ascend like an imposing stage curtain. Breathtaking views reveal a sublime three sixty degrees vista from Manhattan across to Brooklyn, stretching out to New Jersey.
Surreal, almost fantasy-like I am deeply touched by this dramatic sight before me, around me and below me.
I am filled with emotion as I take in the history, the tragedy of past events here. Beyond words, I have gained another memory of this my first visit to New York City.
After one and a half hours I have to physically tear myself away. I take the lift down and head to Ground Zero……..
