Is there a bowl or two of new season Apples in your kitchen? Kentish apples are known for their flavour and taste. I feel lucky to live in the Garden of England where they grow crisp, crunchy and juicy apples; my favourites are- Cox, Jazz, Pippin, Russet and Gala and there are many more varieties. They are packed with Vitamins A,C D,calcium and other nutrients too.
Shopping at local Stores and Farmers Markets is the way forward, getting back to food that is grown locally, clean and fresh. When in Kent,(UK),I enjoy taking the time to shop at my Sunday Markets. They are relaxed, social hours, getting to know the stall holders, a friendly, knowledgeable, hard working, fun group of dedicated people who are passionate about the food they grow. Food that has not been interfered with, by using chemicals or additives or travelled far. Super Hero and I eat in season which takes me back to my childhood. On my grandfather’s plot of land in County Cork, he grew fruit and vegetables full of flavour.
Each of us can do our little bit to change how we buy locally grown fruit. We can continue to make a difference and impact our Kent economy. Lets celebrate by buying ‘Apples’ this weekend from our nearest farm or market. Bake delicious apple cakes or crumbles to share with the family. Juice with other nutritious fruit and vegetables or buy some freshly produced, handcrafted Kentish apple cider from your local producer and taste that difference!
