First written in 2002 – A Poem- Please Accept me as I am – By Miriam McGuirk

June 13, 2016

This poem transcends across many aspects of our daily lives- No matter how different we are, how we may think, there is no doubt that :-
Our world spins around with more ease when we are unconditionally accepted, respected, loved and supported. Unedited…… this is an Extract of Please Accept Me as I am…….

Please accept me as I am
that’s all I ask of you
I have always been different
ever since my little life began.

Underneath this facade
is a real person who cries and feels
just like you.

This person would like to take her mask off
and not feel rejection so much.

A person who felt that she never fitted in,
Never was quite good enough.
So she craved the limelight,
as She hoped it would fill the void
inside.

Please Accept me as I am

This person struggled through life
trying to achieve trying to do better
desperate for acceptance not knowing
that she was Ok.

Forty years on, this person has discovered
all that she has achieved is because
of who she really is
and not of who she decided to become

Please Accept me as I am
No more struggling to mirror what others do
No more people pleasing
No more playing a part
No more pretending that the Show
Is always where it is at
Time to only do what comes from the heart.

Now she lives a true and authentic life
It’s a good place to be
So please accept “She” as she is
Because that she, is Me!
And that is enough
Please Accept me as I am.
