“Life is just a bowl of cherries, So live and laugh at it all.” Title from a song popular in the 1930’s I believe!
My favourite fruit at this time of the year is juicy ripe peaches and heart-shaped black napoleon cherries, both grown locally. They are packed with Vit C and potassium and have many health benefits too. Start breakfast with a Zing!
When I see cherries piled high in the market or stallholders selling them by my local bank it reminds me of my first visit to Paris with my father and sister. I was only nine but it was there I discovered cherries, their deep red colour and taste. I have loved them ever since. No, I was not even put off when I watched The Witches of Eastwick with Daryl Hannah’s scene with cherries!
I recently read and heard about prosperous fruit growing in New York that includes cherries and peaches. A great opportunity for me to visit local farmers markets as I look forward to my imminent trip to New York from 15th September –
I am excited and curious as to what tempting fruits will be in season then, ready for me to taste… perhaps apples, pears or even dark plums?
I cannot forget Kent Cherries which I am rather partial to….their firm succulent flavour and I can pick my own once I return to my second home soon. Kent Cherry farming has developed and made a major comeback in the last years…down to our committed local farmers, essential that we continue to support them.
What are your Fave Summer fruits?
